DNSBL Data Feed

For large users with heavy DNSBL query requirements, such as ISPs and corporate networks, a special Data Feed service is available, providing synchronizations of the Spamhaus DNSBLs (SBL and XBL) to a local nameserver on your network every 30 minutes, 24/7.

A Data Feed eliminates latency problems for large mail servers and very significantly speeds email filtering up, and enables more in-depth checks to be made on incoming mail (such as also checking IPs of URLs in messages against the SBL, in addition to the connecting IPs).

Data Feed Synchronization Method and Format

Due to the size of the DNSBL data and frequency of synchronization, the Data Feeds of SBL-XBL are currently only available utilizing rsync as the synchronization/transfer method. If you wish to apply for a Data Feed please ensure you are able to use rsync. Additionally, due to the size of the DNSBL data,
we also assume you will be using Rbldnsd (a free UNIX DNS server specifically designed for fast-loading and serving of large DNSBLs) and with your Data Feed access information we will send you instructions for setting up the zones using rbldnsd.

Currently both SBL and XBL are available as rsync/Rbldnsd, but only SBL is available as BIND AXFR. In the near future we aim to make both available via BIND AXFR/IXFR as well as rsync/Rbldnsd.

Transfer method
rsync Bind AXFR
Format Bind YES YES
Rbldnsd YES NO
Transfer method
